GILBERTO SILVA does not believe Lucas Torreira is the holding midfielder Arsenal have been crying out for.
The Gunners legend, 42, left the club in 2008 and has never truly been replaced.
Many Arsenal fans and pundits reckon Torreira is the man to be the terrier in midfield at the Emirates for years to come.
Silva, though, does not think he compares with the likes of Premier League winners N'Golo Kante and Fernandinho.
He told talkSPORT: "Arsenal in the last few years have tried to find a player for this position, which is not so easy nowadays because football has changed a lot.
"I have seen so many clubs play without this holding midfielder. At some point, it became not so important but then teams started to realise this player is important to the structure of the defensive part of the team.

"Now we have Kante - but he is out of position. I prefer him to be in the centre. At City, Fernandinho.
"Arsenal bought Torreira but the first season is quite hard for him. I don't know if Arsenal have found the player to be the holding midfielder yet.
"I don't think so, when I see their games compared to the other teams, when you compare to Fernandinho and Kante, I don't see the same style of players."
Silva was a crucial member of Arsene Wenger's teams between his arrival from Atletico Mineiro in 2002 and when he left the club for Panathinaikos six years later.
He scored 17 goals in his 170 Premier League appearances but it was his ability to break up oppositions' attacks and win the ball back that has been so sorely missed ever since.
Torreira, 23, signed last summer for £27million and has featured in all 26 league games this season.
His tenacity and energy has made him a fan favourite at the Emirates but Silva is cautious not to get carried away too quickly.
